Signing up for the Sophrology was the best thing I ever did.  It helped me to be able to deal with many stressful events happening in my life, enabling me to cope so much better on a day to day basis by putting what we learnt into practise and continuing with it until it started to become second nature. I would really recommend Sophrology.  In 6 weeks, I can’t believe the change in myself, I feel so different, for the better.  Looking back, I was constantly anxious, frightened, restless on a daily basis, which was a constant strain on my body.  I really didn’t think it would be possible to change, but it is! The sessions remind your body what it is like to be in a calm, relaxed and controlled state and by doing the mp3, it helped me continue this at home. I am also looking forward to doing the course again in the near future because I feel now I have better understanding I can learn more from it. It has also inspired to get back into yoga because this works well with Sophrology.

I want to thank you for your classes and let you know that since going to your classes I have noticed huge, positive changes in myself.  I would like to share with you the progress I have made from before your classes to now.  Last year I had lots of mood swings, I always felt upset and emotional, very anxious and sometimes depressed and thought yoga would help and didn’t know what else to do.  I looked on the internet for yoga classes in my area and came across your website. I saw that you also ran Sophrology classes as well as yoga. I had never heard of Sophrology before but when reading about it I thought I would give it a go; anything that could ease how I felt was definitely worth trying.  I was initially nervous but when attending your classes I always felt welcome, at ease and had things in common with the other people that attended which was a relief to know that I wasn’t the only one to feel like this.  I enjoyed the classes, I was always so relaxed and quieting my mind felt like a huge weight had been taken off.  I hadn’t noticed before just how much tension I had in my shoulders!  I also found the mindfulness and neuroscience bits of your classes very interesting. I made notes when I got home so that I could practice the techniques you taught us when I had a spare minute.  I especially found the mp3 player very helpful, as at first it was difficult to practice the techniques on my own (as my mind would wander so much) so having the mp3 player was like having a private tutor whenever I was struggling.  In time through practice the techniques became easier to do on my own and I still use the breathing techniques and mp3 now. Towards the end of the 6 week of classes I had a job interview.  I am always nervous at things like this but before I went I listened to the mp3 player and used techniques to calm the mind and slow my breathing which helped so much with my confidence and how I came across.  I got the job!!!  From leaving your classes I didn’t know what to do next.  I wanted to learn more and continue to practice the Sophrology and relaxation as I didn’t want to undo all the hard work.    From discussions in the classes I became very interested in the mindfulness and neuroscience side of Sophrology and  have since bought books on psychology and mindfulness .  I am so much more happy, calm and relaxed now.  I am not anxious about silly things anymore, I don’t get upset and emotional as much and don’t feel depressed at all.  Of course I still have bad days now and again but the continuation of sophrology and mindfulness helps me with that. So ,thank you so much for all your help.  You have set me on a much calmer and happier path.  If you would like to use any of this for your testimonial, feel free.

I found Sophrology helpful in relaxing me in my stressful life..  The classes gave me time for me and I also came away with ideas on how to relax and not let “life get on top of me”.  Lynn is such a calming influence and a great teacher.  I would recommend Lynn’s Sophrology or Yoga classes to anyone who wants or needs to take some out for themselves.

I loved the mp3 idea, as it was good to listen to just before going to sleep. It made me feel much more positive and happy after listening to it I would definitely recommend this to anyone who suffers with anxiety and other similar problems.

Sophrology has helped me to spend some time each day in mindfulness, focusing on what I can see or hear or feel at that moment. This has helped me to live more in the present moment, and worry less about what might happen. I think this is helping with my cfs/ME (although it is not a cure, and I do not feel my condition is caused by stress) because I now waste less energy worrying so there is more energy left for more pleasant pursuits. I am also trying to spend time each day being thankful, which also leaves less time for worrying. I feel the mp3 has been very helpful. I find spending 10minutes laying listening to one of the tracks really helpful in restoring energy. I especially like the mountain meditation, and thinking of emotions as passing storms.

I became interested in the Sophrology course after you spoke about it at the Yoga class. The best thing that I have taken from the class is learning to live in the moment and taking some time to breathe! I have found this really helpful and enjoy sharing it with other people. Sophrology has helped me respect myself.  I am able to reflect on the things in my life that mean the most to me ie family, health and friends.  All the other things are a pain when they go wrong or if you don’t have them but that’s life.

‘I feel these classes have helped me in a number of ways:

  • With learning to breathe in a different way (i.e. deeper) my asthma has improved. I think I was shallow breathing before and now I can really feel my chest opening out wide.
  • I sleep a lot better since starting. I bought the mp3 player at the first session and have listened to the ‘restful sleep’ every night. Sometimes I am asleep before the routine has finished!!
  • When I feel myself getting anxious in certain situations I try to keep myself calm by breathing calmly and deeply and remembering what has been said in class. A lot of the time this works and stops a full blown panic attack which I used to have.
  • My panic attacks are becoming fewer and less severe.
  • Being in a class with other people makes you realise that you are not the only one who feels the way you do and that maybe by listening to their experiences you learn from them or even notice that you are doing things you weren’t aware of.
  • Having the mp3 to pick and choose from a routine during the day has been a bonus. It’s nice to carry on during ‘non class’ days.
  • I find the classes very relaxing and leave feeling more positive and ready to face the day.’

‘Time for myself with no other distractions. Not feeling guilty about taking this time. Group sessions very helpful and I look forward to them. Feeling happier within myself and more able to control negative thoughts and feelings. More positive and focussed. Being aware when anxiety begins to take over, pausing and breathing and being aware of calming things down. I find I use breathing and tension release especially in shoulders several times a day. Relaxation tape is marvellous especially if I am feeling a bit low. Takes me away I love Sophrology!’
